Meet MagicStick (crowdfunding), tiny Mini PC's with Intel 14nm Cherry Trail

Crowdfunding sites allowed some great ideas to come up to life, some of which might never had the chance to be born otherwise.

One look at the technology section of one of these sites (like Indiegogo) and you'll see dozens of projects that are nothing short of amazing.

Sure, not all of them actually succeed, even when they are fully funded.
Just recently Matchstick, an HDMI stick based on Firefox OS managed to raise close to $500.000 from more than 17.000 backers. While the funding was a success, the device never got to the market and now they are refunding all backers.
Not to mention Ubuntu Edge, which managed to get almost 13 million dollars in funding!

But there still are projects you can look at and really feel the energy behind that idea which makes you really want to see that project come to life. MagicStick is one of those projects.

MagicStick One and MagicStick Wave are two powerful HDMI dongles Using Cherry Trail Z8500 / Z8700 SoC and with 1 USB 3.1 type-C and 2 USB 3.0 ports Available in several flavours

The idea behind MagicStick is simple : transform your existing TV in a PC, using just an HDMI stick.

This is not something that hasn't be done before, the idea itself was even embraced recently by large names like Google or Intel. But the people behind MagicStick want to step up the game a bit and bring devices that pack a little more power and get more bang for your buck.

Using Intel’s 14 nm Cherry Trail and one USB 3.1 C-type port and two USB 3.0 ports and 2/4GB or RAM is really a good way to get noticed.
But MagicStick idea ('cause at this point it's just that, an idea) also impresses with it's simplicity:you get to use things you already own: the TV is your screen and the smartphone is your remote.
It's also easy to carry if needed and makes no noise... at all.

Will MagicStick succeed?

MagicStick was supposed to launch on September 4th on Indiegogo but it was postponed to Setpember 16th, and projects that looked much less complicated (Matchstick?) have been known to fail.

But, as I said on the introduction, this is one of those projects you want to see coming to life. And I wouldn't be surprised if they get fully-funded and operational.

You can learn more about MagicStick on their website, or wait for their Indiegogo campaign to start.
