Amlogic S905
If you visit MiniPCDB regularly (and you should!), you know that I tend to favor here devices that have multiple uses that extend their life after the inevitable day when their "mini pc" features get obsolete.
A good example are these two new devices under the Mecool brand.
What we have here is a classic Amlogic S905 TV box - with 1GB of RAM, 8GB ROM, Gigabit LAN, wi-fi, perfectly capable of rendering movies up to 4K@60fps.
But the manufacturer also added a built-in DVB-T/T2 tunner and, to make things a bit more interesting, a 5-speaker soundbar, which boasts 70W of sound power.
The Mecool KS1 device can be used as a TV box, a classic soundbar, or to listen to internet radio (or any internet content for that matter), or as a bluetooth speaker.
Mecool KS1 full specs

So the main "mini PC" specs feature a pretty boring S905 device, nothing to be excited about - but then you see the extra features, and you might think that yo could use this.

Mecool KS2There's also a slightly cut-down version of the Mecool KS1 device, the KS2.
Mecool KS2 is smaller in size (51 cm long instead of 94 cm the KS1 has) and has only 3 speakers - and it's also cheaper.
Currently listed on GearBest at $86.99 - if you use the coupon code GBMKS2. |
If I were to choose one of them, I'd go for the KS1, the price difference between them is just too small, and the 5 speakers for KS1 versus just 3 for KS2 might make quite a difference.
So, here they are: two new Amlogic S905 devices just hit the market. Yes, S905 is a bit outdated, but these two are quite interesting mostly because of their other features.
