Update: Minix Neo Z83-4 Pro review.
While we wait for the new Minix Neo N42C-4, let's see what the current Minix fanless Mini PC is all about.
Minix Neo Z83-4 Pro was announced just a few days before it hit the market, as an upgrade for the Z83-4 we mentioned a while back.
Basically Minix bumped the SoC to Atomâ„¢ x5-Z8350, Windows 10 is now Pro and you they package now includes a VESA mount - actually the device comes already mounted, see below.
Z83-4 Pro now aims at both home and commercial users - a fanless Mini PC which can be tucked away behind a monitor and can be programmed to start and shutdown automatically for any number of tasks.
Minix Neo Z83-4 Pro unboxing
It's no surprise that Minix chose to use the same blue box as the previous Windows models, which is simple yet aesthetically pleasing.
You can get an idea about what's inside due to the subtitles like "Ideal solution for industrial and commercial applications" and "VESA mount included for fast and easy installation".
Remove the top and you are greeted by the actual device, nicely padded.
What's in the box
The device comes with a power adapter, 6 screws (normally you will only need 4, Minix provided 2 spares), an HDMI cable and the detachable wi-fi antenna.
There's also a multi-language setup guide which you won't probably use and a Minix product brochure containing (you guessed it!) other Minix devices.
The VESA mount is premounted, but can be easily removed without any tools.
To mount it behind a monitor or TV simply connect the screws through the VESA mount to the back of the compatible monitor and clip the mini PC into place.
Very easy!
Minix Neo Z83-4 Pro look
Simply put, the device looks exactly like it's predecessor : simple design with rounded corners, good quality plastic with the Minix logo embossed on top and most ports places on the right and back.
The right side is where Minix placed the power button and the ports usually used for peripherals : 3 x USB 2.0 and 1 x USB 3.0 and the SD card slot.
On the back we have the other ports, which you usually don't change all that often - the 3.5mm audio jack combo, mini DP, HDMI, Gigabit ethernet and the power adapter.
On the left we have the antenna, a reset pinhole and the Kensigton lock.
In one of the previous posts I mentioned that Minix could be easily named "the Apple of Mini PC's" - and I still get that impression from the new Minix device - we'll see how the Mini PC will perform in the full Z83-4 Pro review.
